Vicent Van Gogh Presentation

Biography
  • Vincent Van Gogh 1853-1890
  • Van Gogh was born in Southern Holland.
  • As a child he was extremely emotional given to sudden and violent outbursts of rage.
  • His education began in public school, where he got bullied; this made him more violent and led him to be home schooled.
  • Van Gogh loved the country and he spent his time with local peasants, animals, nature and other living things.
  • He suffered from terrible seizures, which is said to have been caused by traumatic experiences in his childhood.
  • Van Gogh’s first drawing started at the age of ten where he conventionally studied the expression of flowers using pencil and water color. These images fit easily in to the Neo-Expressionist era.
  • Van Gogh’s drawings ignored proportion and perspective but his drawings still created interest.
  • From age eleven to sixteen he went to boarding school.
  • He took a job with the Goupil Gallery in the Hague and never finished school.
  • He got transferred to a London Museum where he started to study the work of Corot, Millet and others.
  • Van Gogh fell in love with Ursula, however, she rejected him.
  • He went off to become a clergy man, but was dismissed by his superiors.
When he turn into art
  • Van Gogh turned to art in 1880.
  • He studied anatomy and perspective in Brussels, thinking he might be destined to be peasant painter.
  • At this time his art was dark, but he found influences from Rubens, Hokusai and others that change his painting in respect to color.
  • He went to Paris where impressionism was everywhere and began painting views of the Seine, the Boulevards and other subjects of that era.
  • He became dissatisfied with his work and Paris and he moved to South France.
  • There his drawing became personal and graphic like hand writing. The drawing contained broad overlapping strokes that gave it a unique texture.
Final Days
  • Van Gogh became hostile and his brother, Theo, took Van Gogh to an asylum in 1889.
  • He was still allowed to draw and wonder outside, but he was not happy there.
  • His painting changed and they became swirls and quite different from his previews work.
  • Soon he committed suicide and died in his brother’s arms.
